Q: What is Synchronized skating?
A: This is a team sport, made up of 8 - 20 skaters on a team, that skate at various levels in formations of circles, wheels, lines, blocks and intersections to choreographed programs.

Q: What is the benefit to skating with a team?
A: Synchronized skating gives skaters the opportunity to participate in a team sport atmosphere that, as a singles skater, they would otherwise not experience. Besides what a skater can learn about working with a team to acheive their goals, skaters also learn confidence while out on the ice, competing and performing, with the support of their teammates at their side. Synchronized skating introduces many positive aspects into a skater's life.

Q: How long is a season for a synchronized team?
A: Most teams generally run from May to March of the following year, with tryouts in April.

Q: What is the cost to be on a synchronized team?
A: The cost can vary depending on many variables. The number of skaters on the team, effects the total costs to be divided by. More skaters on a team, will reduce costs. Also, level of the team effects the cost. A higher level team requires more ice time and also off ice time, to perfect their program(s). Other additional variables, like ice costs (which are set by the arena), professional coaching fees, choreography fees (if any) and also apparel for the entire season all add into the costs. Teams can range between $100 - $400 / month. Upper Mt Skating Assocation works hard to keep our team's costs between $100 - $300 / month.

Q: Why do synchronized teams have contracts to sign?
A: Because a team needs a minimum number of skaters in order to be elidgible to compete, it is important to ensure that the team will have the skaters that signed up, for the entire season. Also, financially, if the finances are based on 14 skaters and then two leave, that now puts a larger expense on the 12 remaining skaters. Contracts are a "safety net" for the entire team.

Q: Do I have to be a club member to join the team?
A: Yes. All of our synchro teams are part of Upper Mt. Skating Association, the club at Princeton Sports Center. All members of the team must represent this club in order to skate on one of our teams.
