Our Alumni Banquet is officially October 24! We cant wait to see everyone there!
The BUDS started the fall 2015 season off strong! A great weekend of sailing all around. Shout out to the lady BUDS for placing second at the Toni Deustch regatta and to our co-ed team for placing third at the Harry Anderson regatta. Also, congratulations to our sloop team for qualifying for sloop New Englands and to our freshman for placing second in their first regatta! Proud of our BUDS!
After a long winter, one of the longest winters Boston has seen in years, the BUDS finally got out on the water on March 24th. While we were still sailing among ice chunks, it was good to finally get out on the Charles. Originally practice was to begin the first week of March, however mother nature must not have got the memo and the temperature refused to rise.
Thankfully, the spring break trip to Miami from March 8th- 14th allowed the buds to get their feet wet with 5 days of perfect sailing conditions. The trip, as always, was a great chance for the team to grow closer and develop great sailing skills along the way. To add to the significance of the trip, our last day of sailing was marked with a double rainbow!
A special thanks to BUDS Alumni Heidi Benjamin, class of 86′ for inviting the team to visit her yacht, Gem.
After returning to Boston and finding the river still frozen solid, the team spent the week training at the gym. However, by the 17th of march, the team decided it was time to act. Operation ice pick began in earnest.
Believe it or not, the plan worked and after a while, visible progress was made.
After a solid day’s work and one more week of melting, the river finally gave in and thawed enough to sail.
Yet another snow day at BU!!! That makes it 5 and half!
In the mean time, the BUDS are playing soccer and working out at FitRec to keep off any calories from the snow day munchies.
All these extra days make for a great time for sailing discussions and making spring break plans.
Welcome back and happy new year! The buds are back in action! As this new semester starts up and the buds begin preparing for a new season, let’s take the time to recognize our fantastic alumni.
Thank you for following and supporting this team these past years. Without your support, our team would not be nearly as successful.
Stay tuned for photos of the alumni regatta from the day of the banquet.
Teammate bonds and relations are the heart of any team, and with numerous freshmen having joined this year, the team has become deeper and stronger. Always supporting and motivating each other, the BUDS balanced another semester of academics and sailing.
It was a fair season overall, yet knowing that the BUDS are capable of better results, goals for winter preparation and the coming season are higher than ever.
And now, a winter of work-outs and sailing-talk meetings awaits. RAH BUDS!by | · 2:00 am
